A few months ago, a speaker on the radio show "Focus on the Family" made the following comment, which any good parent knows is true:

"I have never met a child who wanted to be kept in a prison cell, but I have never met a child who did not want to be kept on a leash."

When I heard that, I thought "Any one who loves their children knows they need and want limits". Children need to know they are loved by their parents, and one of the ways parents let their kids know this is by setting (and enforcing!) rules and constraints on their children. "You must have our permission to do any activity outside the house"; "You must be home by 7 pm on a school night"; "You must complete your homework before you do anything else" and so on.

Now "The Center for Addiction and Substance Abuse" at Columbia University has released a survey agreeing with this long-held Christian belief about families. Praise the Lord! Read More »
