"The procedure is performed during the fifth month of gestation or later. The woman's cervix is dilated, and the fetus is partially removed from the womb, feet first. The surgeon jabs a sharp object into the back of the fetus' head, removes it, and inserts a vacuum tube through which the brains are extracted. The head of the fetus contracts at this point and allows the fetus to be more easily removed from the womb." Read More »

Proponents of partial-birth abortion say that it is only to be used to "save the life of the mother" or to "spare the baby pain and suffering" if they believe the baby will come into the world with a "serious malformation" of some kind.

I've tried and tried but I just don't understand the reasons this heinous process is condoned by our society. Let me start with the claim that this procedure could "save the life of the mother". I'm not a doctor so I cannot repudiate this statement, but I do think that it completely discounts the fact that eventually the mother will die anyway, by virtue of the fact that we all die. The process is called "senescence". All life is an inexorable journey towards inevitable death.

What greater glory is there for a human being than to give his or her life to save the life of another? We all recognize that kind of sacrifice as something that is only done by "evolved" humans. In that case, could you then say that the aborted baby "sacrificed" itself to save its mother's life? No you couldn't, because the "glory" of this type of personal sacrifice come from the fact that one gives up one's life by choice. The baby doesn't have a choice, it's a completely innocent, helpless victim.

Also, since when has medical science been so "scientifically accurate" that its practitioners can state for certain that the mother will die if they don't kill the baby growing in her womb?

Now as to the second claim, that "partial-birth abortion" is performed to "spare the baby pain and suffering". I've thought and thought about that and still I have unanswered questions. How do "they" know the baby is "spared" pain and suffering? To "spare the baby pain and suffering" (from what the abortionist feels would be "a short and meaningless life"), the baby is killed in the midst of its struggle to be born. Someone please tell me! How can anyone know the baby is "spared pain and suffering" when its struggle for life is ended by a pair of scissors shoved into its brain? Why would the baby be struggling if it didn't want to live? Who determines the "value" of a life anyway? As for a "short and meaningless life" of a "malformed" baby, tell me, do you think the scientific community is sorry the mother of Stephen Hawkings didn't abort him?

In most partial-birth abortions, the baby struggles for life even as the abortionist is killing it. Doesn't that tell you anything? Life, with all its trials and tribulations, is worth living, no matter how short or painfilled that life may be. It is a Gift from God. If a mother risks the sacrifice of her own life to save the life of her baby, I believe that God rejoices at her choice. When a baby is executed by having its brain destroyed by a steel blade, I believe God cries out in fury at the hubris of the abortionist, at the death of the innocent baby.

Then there's the so-called "feminists" who say that "all babies should be wanted" and therefore, if they are not wanted then it's okay to abort them. That couples can "plan their family" and if the wife finds herself pregnant and it's not in the "plan" then it's okay to kill the baby that was, presumably, conceived "in love". That if a 13-year-old girl has sex and gets pregnant, she has "the right" to abort the fetus. I say if she's old enough to make the choice to have sex, she's old enough to accept the consequences of the possible results of that choice: a new human being.

Any woman, in this United States of America, who is pregnant and needs help can find an agency to sustain her through her pregnancy, even if she doesn't wish to keep the baby after its birth. How many people are there in this country that desperately want children, but cannot have their own? Wouldn't they willingly take the "unwanted" or "unplanned" baby"?

These "feminists" go on to say "a woman has a right to control her own reproductive processes". I agree wholeheartedly! That's what condoms are for, that's what birth control pills are for. Oh, and don't forget the best control of all: abstinence. But to make a baby, it takes a woman and a man, so once there's a baby inside a woman, the "control" issue is a moot point because a decision has obviously been made, intentionally or accidentally. LIFE takes precedence over convenience.

These same "feminists" go on to question: what if a woman gets pregnant from a rape? What if the rapist is her father? Or her brother? Should she have the baby or abort it? I cannot answer those questions so I won't even try. But there have been children born of incestuous rape who have lived lives of great purpose. And if their mothers had aborted them? What then? I don't know, do you?

Now you might think I'm some kind of religious rightwinger or submissive woman. Au contraire! I'm a real feminist. The annoying kind who think that women are superior in every way to men. (I've always thought that, ask my exhusbands). I also do not believe that opposition to "partial-birth abortion" is a sign of "hatred towards women" as these so-called "feminists" have stated. I believe that opposition to partial-birth abortion is, in fact, an expression of compassionate respect towards women and love of children.

Furthermore, I believe that life is a learning journey and that we only grow by meeting adversity head-on and working our way through it. As Og Mandino said, "the prizes of life are at the end of each journey, not near the beginning".

Life is difficult. This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths. It is a great truth because once we truly see this truth, we transcend it. Once we truly know that life is difficult--once we truly understand and accept it--then life is no longer difficult. Because once it is accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters.

M. Scott Peck from "The Road Less Traveled"

One Dead, One Wounded

They say for every abortion there is "one dead and one wounded". The "feminists" say that the women who have partial-birth abortions typically suffer "emotional pain" for some time after the process. Let me see if I understand this: The BABY is DEAD and the "mother" suffers "emotional pain". How difficult is it to understand the difference between a "lifetime of emotional pain" for the "mother" and unending DEATH for the innocent child?

Do you know there are people who make money off abortions? They are called "fetal parts wholesalers". Do you know that Planned Parenthood gets federal tax dollars and that they are very involved in marketing of fetal parts? That WE, the TAXPAYERS, thus pay for the marketing of dead babies? Do you know that a whole fetus sells for US$600.00? Do you know how much an eye sells for? A kidney? A pair of gonads? That before the fetal parts can be sold, the "mother" must sign a consent form? To wit:

I grant permission to allow [the wholesaler]... to distribute and dispense tissue from my aborted fetus. I give up all rights, including FINANCIAL, to this "property". (Since when was a baby "property"?)

The people in charge of women having abortions are more interested in the dead than in the wounded... because they're going to make big, big profits. There's no way to know how many live births occur during partial-birth abortions, because the fetuses are alive until they are killed as they come through the birth canal.

The following true stories are presented because I think you should know the reality of partial-birth abortion.

The Joy of Twins

The doctor walked into the abortion lab and set a steel pan on the table (in front of the fetal parts wholesaler). He said, "Got you some good specimens, twins." The wholesaler, a woman, looked down on two perfectly formed 24-week old fetuses, moving and gasping for air. Except for some surgical knicks from the partial-birth abortion, they were uninjured. The wholesaler said, "There's something wrong here, they're moving. I don't do this. That's not in my contract!". She watched the doctor take a bottle of sterile water and fill the pan till it ran up over the babies' mouth and filled them with water. She walked out of the room, muttering, "I can't watch this." (The question is: did she come back and collect the 'specimens' once they were dead?)

America the Beautiful

One day there was a newborn who survived the abortion with no one around to hold it. It was left to die in a soiled linen closet. The hospital [in Chicago] denies this happened, but the nurse says it did. She says she has seen abortions done on some newborns who did not have any physical defects (the hospital claims it only does abortions to "save the mother's life" or if the child "has severe deformities").

The bassinet or the hospital sterile bucket?

A woman 5 months pregnant came to Dayton Ohio to have a partial birth abortion. When the "doctor" was done with the fetus he laid it aside. The nurse was shocked when the baby gave a gasp of air. "I rocked her and talked to her because I felt no one should die alone".

Don't these stories remind you of the aftermath to the Holocaust, when the guards at the death camps defended themselves by muttering "I was only doing my job!"

This is the procedure President Clinton decided is LEGAL.

Some hospitals and the abortionists that use their facilities can even ensure that fetuses remain alive so that genetic tests can be done on the fetus (aka: the defenseless BABY). Abortionists can also ensure that aborted fetuses live for at least ten minutes outside the mother's body so that they can remove body parts. You see, fetal parts wholesalers require that parts be removed within ten minutes of "death". Oh, in case you are wondering, fetal parts are bought by hospitals, research scientists, universities. And you were squeamish when you had to cut up a frog in high school lab!

Are doctors who perform abortions abiding by their Hippocratic Oath or by a "new-age" HIPPOCRITIC oath? Here's what Senator Bob Smith has to say about it.
